£10,000 grant awarded to WCF

Exciting news for Wellington Community Food! It’s been a while since we have given an update but we now have some things to shout about that we want to share with you.

We have been awarded our first funding – a Growing Grant of £10,000 from Somerset Community Foundation!

Growing Grants support community-led food projects that make healthier food affordable for everyone, and use food and growing projects to help connect local people to each other.

The grant will be spent on establishment of vegetable beds, tools and seeds over a 24 month period.

A fantastic contribution to the Community Farm start-up.

We are also starting to build up ideas of things we will need and help required. Initially that will include establishing our growing beds. If you know of someone who as a small tractor and small two furrow plough (like used in competition ploughing) we’d love to hear from you.

We are also looking for IBC for water storage for irrigation next year.

Not initially but early next year hopefully we will be looking for polytunnels.

Importantly well also be wanting people power. Although still not quite there yet we will hold a site meeting for volunteers as soon as we possibly can.
